Fiber to Fabric

2011 Fiber to Fabric will be presented by the Desoto Arts Council, at the Banks House,

564 W. Commerce, Hernando, MS 38632

October 1, 10:00am to 3:0pm.

Immediatly followed by the Hernando Sacred Harp  choir.

This event is held by the Desoto Art Center at our new resident, The Banks House in Hernando, Mississippi.  We are very excited about this 100 year old antebellum home.  It is perfect for art and craft shows, classes and demonstrations, music and parties!

This will be our third year for Fiber to Fabric. This event came about because of the desire to educate the public on all aspects of turning “Fiber” into “Fabric. The event includes as many different types of fiber animals that we can gather together: llamas with excellent fiber, wonderfully soft alpacas, the rare pygora goat, fluffy angora rabbits and this year we will hopefully be able to include a sheep! Once again we will have the demonstration tent on the processing of wool fiber from the washing, dying and carding, to preparing the fiber to spin or felt.

This year we are taking action to promote the fiber industry in our area along with educating the public. Fiber is a renewable resource used to create beautiful crafts that are American grown and made right in their own neighborhoods!!!

We are putting out a call for anyone who works with fiber in any way shape or form, to come and participate and show our community the wonderful fiber crafts that our locals (and surrounding area!!) are capable of.

The event will be held in Hernando, MS at the Banks House, home of the Desoto Arts Council on October 1, from 10:00am to 3:00 pm.

The llamas will be from Magnolia Knoll Farm, New Albany, MS
Alpaca’s from Coldwater Alpaca Ranch, Coldwater, MS
Pygora Goats and Angora Rabbits from Little Bit Acres Farm, Coldwater, MS

Please come enjoy the day and see the wonderful fiber animals and what can be created with their fibers, and vist!!

Looking forward to seeing everyone.

Patricia
